My name is Ted and I’m a certified therapy dog for The Birthing Inn. My owner is Susan Sherwood, who is a licensed midwife and the owner of TBI. When she is in the building, I’m usually with her doing my job helping others. I’m a Shih Tzu/Maltese breed. I don’t shed like a typical dog, so I’m generally good with most people who suffer from pet allergies. I’m registered with Therapy Dogs International. My job is similar to other therapy animals for disabled persons, hospice care, hospitals and retirement facilities. Go to http://www.tdi-dog.org/ for more information.
I enjoy visiting with everyone who comes to The Birthing Inn and assisting in taking away any anxiety that you or your family might have about your upcoming labor and birth. I especially like sitting with expectant moms, but I want to help their families, too. Most of the time, I hang out in my little space by the front desk, but you may see me walking the halls. Feel free to say “Hi” or pat me on the belly – I love attention! Part of my job is to teach children how to safely interact with animals. Please be sure to ask for an initial introduction between the little ones and myself. Although I really enjoy my job, if you prefer that I not visit with you, please let the friendly TBI Staff know; my feelings won’t be hurt!
