First Friday Postpartum Social

First Friday Postpartum Social with Refreshments

Congratulations on your new arrival! The weeks and months following birth—often called the fourth trimester—are filled with joy, wonder, and sometimes challenges that can feel isolating. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. We invite you to bring yourself and your new baby to The Birthing Inn’s First Friday Postpartum Social, where you can connect with other new parents who understand exactly what you’re experiencing.

A Safe Space for New Parents

The postpartum period is one of the most transformative times in your life. Whether you’re celebrating the highs or working through the lows, our postpartum social provides a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you can be exactly where you are. This isn’t just another mommy-and-me class with a rigid agenda—it’s a genuine community gathering centered around what you and other new parents need in the moment.

Meet Your Facilitator: Adrianne Buyer

Our postpartum social is facilitated by Adrianne Buyer, a local doula and childbirth educator who understands the complexities of early parenthood. Adrianne brings warmth, expertise, and a deep commitment to supporting families during the fourth trimester. While she’s there to guide and support, the focus of each gathering is entirely on you and what you’re experiencing.

What Happens at Postpartum Social?

Unlike structured classes or programs, our postpartum social is intentionally flexible and responsive to the needs of attendees. Each gathering is unique because each group of parents brings different experiences, questions, and needs. You might find yourself:

There’s no set program to follow, no curriculum to complete, and no expectations beyond showing up as you are. Whether you’re having a great day or a really hard one, you’re welcome here.

The Fourth Trimester: A Time of Transformation

The months immediately following the birth of your baby are often called the fourth trimester—a recognition that the transition to parenthood is as significant as the nine months of pregnancy. During this time, you’re recovering physically, adjusting emotionally, learning to feed and care for your baby, and navigating a completely new identity as a parent.

It’s common to experience a wide range of emotions during this period: overwhelming love, exhaustion, anxiety, joy, loneliness, confidence, doubt, and everything in between. Sometimes all in the same day! Having a supportive community during this vulnerable time can make all the difference in how you experience these early months of parenthood.

Why Community Matters

Research consistently shows that postpartum support reduces feelings of isolation, helps prevent postpartum mood disorders, and improves overall well-being for new parents. When you connect with others who are in the same season of life, you realize that your experiences—whether challenging or beautiful—are shared by others. This sense of togetherness and understanding is powerful medicine during the fourth trimester.

Many parents who attend our postpartum social find that the friendships formed here extend well beyond these gatherings, creating lasting connections with families in the Tacoma and south sound community.

Bring Your Baby

Your baby is always welcome at our postpartum social! We understand that leaving your newborn at home isn’t always possible or desirable. Our space is baby-friendly, and you’re encouraged to feed, soothe, or care for your little one as needed throughout the gathering. In fact, having babies present often helps facilitate conversations about infant care, feeding, and development.

Refreshments Provided

We know that getting out of the house with a newborn takes effort, so we want to make sure you’re nourished when you arrive. Light refreshments will be provided at each social, giving you one less thing to worry about.
