Your Trusted Team of Washington State Licensed Midwives
Licensed Midwives are holistic providers who have a legal license by the state of Washington, with the first having been issued in 1917. Licensed Midwives are experts in healthy, low-risk pregnancy and normal physiologic birth. As specialists in community-based birth (out-of-hospital birth), Licensed Midwives attend births in homes or at freestanding birth centers like The Birthing Inn. Licensed Midwives are direct entry midwives, which means their training started with out-of-hospital births, rather than in hospitals. Learn more

Brandy Stuart
Brandy, born and raised in Bremerton, Washington, is a midwife and mom who loves the outdoors, live music, cooking, and family adventures. She began birth work in 2002 as a doula, making it her full-time career in 2012. After apprenticing with local practices and graduating magna cum laude from Midwives College of Utah in 2019, she began practicing locally in 2020. She has supported hundreds of families in all settings, with passions for physiologic birth, water birth, postpartum healing, and inclusive care. Brandy blends traditional midwifery wisdom with modern clinical skills, always centering trust and informed choice.

Ciara Richardson
Ciara (she/her) has been attending births in the greater Puget Sound area for over a decade. Starting as a doula, her passion for birth and supporting people through labor grew like wildfire. She is a certified doula, bereavement doula and graduated summa cum laude with her BSM from the Midwives College of Utah in 2023. Ciara feels that birth is unique and individual to every person. It is unlike any other experience in life and allows us to discover a deeper and truer sense of strength. She strives to create a safe, peaceful environment regardless of birthing choices or circumstances. Believing education is our strongest tool, she works to empower clients to find their voice. She has extensive experience in hospital birth and out of hospital birth, with a special love for home and birth centers.
Outside of birth, Ciara enjoys movement, being outside, reading, creating, harvesting herbs, having uncomfortable conversations and spending time with her partner and kids.

Kay Jackson
Kay has been practicing midwifery for over 28 years and was a Labor & Delivery nurse for 10 years prior to that, including her military service. She is an expert in safe practice with water birth, and facilitating the use of hypnosis during labor and birth.

Birth and Postpartum doulas
You are welcome to have a doula accompany at your birth at The Birthing Inn. Doula’s are not Midwives or Physicians, they are birthing coaches who are specially trained and experienced in the process of birth and labor. This might include education, emotional support, or physical support before, during and after labor. Consider adding a Doula to your birth team!
